We are an ambitious climate-tech company developing innovative processes to mitigate ocean acidification and realize atmospheric CO₂ removal (so-called “negative emissions”). Our multidisciplinary team combines electrochemistry, mineral processing, and marine systems engineering to turn breakthrough concepts into robust pilot and industrial installations.

We are looking for a Senior Technician who can help turn engineering ideas into working systems. This is a practical, hands-on role for someone with broad technical experience, strong workshop instincts, and a good eye for construction, assembly, maintenance, and future scale-up.

You will work directly on our current developments: building, modifying, testing, troubleshooting, and improving pilot and demonstration equipment. The work will involve process equipment, piping, pumps, valves, frames, containers, electrical interfaces, instrumentation, sensors, sampling systems, and marine-related hardware.

What you will do

  • Build, assemble, modify, and maintain pilot and demonstration systems.
  • Support the practical construction of skids, frames, piping, tubing, tanks, manifolds, containers, and test setups.
  • Install and troubleshoot pumps, valves, sensors, instruments, electrical components, and control-related hardware.
  • Work closely with mechanical, chemical, electrical, automation, and research colleagues.
  • Translate drawings and engineering ideas into practical working equipment.
  • Give feedback on constructability, maintainability, accessibility, and robustness.
  • Support testing, commissioning, operation, and field modifications.
  • Identify practical improvements for safety, reliability, assembly time, and future scale-up.
  • Coordinate with suppliers, workshops, and installation partners where needed.
  • Keep the system clean, traceable, documented, and ready for safe operation.

What we are looking for

  • A senior technician with experience across multiple technical fields.
  • Strong hands-on background in mechanical assembly, process equipment, piping, electrical basics, instrumentation, or pilot plant work.
  • Practical understanding of construction quality, layout, maintenance access, and safe working methods.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, P&IDs, equipment manuals, wiring diagrams, and supplier documentation.
  • Experience with one or more of the following is valuable: water treatment, chemical process equipment, marine systems, electrochemical systems, renewable energy, containers, skids, test rigs, or industrial maintenance.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-moving development environment where equipment changes often.
  • Able to spot problems early and propose practical fixes.
  • Hands-on mindset: you like building, testing, improving, and making systems work in reality.
  • Optimistic and constructive: when something does not work, you help find the next practical step.

Your profile

You are the person who sees whether something can actually be built, maintained, lifted, connected, flushed, cleaned, repaired, and scaled. You have the practical eye that prevents beautiful drawings from becoming painful hardware.

You do not wait behind a desk for perfect instructions. You ask the right questions, pick up the tools, check the details, and help the team move forward. You are careful where safety and quality matter, and pragmatic where speed and learning matter.

Why join Ocean Ionics

  • Work on serious climate technology with real-world hardware.
  • Be close to the development of pilot and demonstration systems.
  • Help shape equipment before it scales to larger plants.
  • Work across mechanical, process, electrical, instrumentation, and marine systems.
  • Join a small team where practical skill and ownership make a direct difference.

Location

Netherlands / Spain / hybrid to be defined, with travel expected for workshop work, suppliers, testing, commissioning, and demonstration activities.
